Henry interesting Villa but deal not close
Aston Villa are interested in signing Brentford defender Rico Henry this month, but a move isn’t close to completion, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Speculation on social media had suggested that Dean Smith was close to signing the 21-year old left-back who he previously worked with at Walsall and Brentford, but the Mail understands a move is not yet imminent.
The former England youth international was given his senior debut by Smith at 17, and subsequently followed the man to Griffin Park in 2016.
As well as being highly rated by Smith, Henry has also impressed in the Championship for the Bees this season, leading the Villa hierarchy to support Smith’s desire to sign his former player.
The Birmingham-born full-back has suffered a number of careers in his young career but his willingness to continue fighting back has impressed Smith, and so a deal could be in the offing in the not-so-distant future.
If Villa do shore up their interest in the defender he would be Smith’s third signing in this current window, with Lovre Kalinic and Kourtney Hause having already walked through the gates at Bodymoor Heath.
