Many Aston Villa fans have praises goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez after his performance in last night’s 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal.
Dean Smith’s side started the season in excellent form, winning their first four games, including a thumping 7-2 win over champions Liverpool. However, they approached the visit to the Emirates Stadium having lost two consecutive games.
Form seemed not to matter, though, as an own goal from Bukayo Saka and a double from Ollie Watkins gave Villa an impressive 3-0 win. The three points moved Villa up to sixth place in the Premier League, just three points off leaders Leicester City.
Martinez produced a fine performance, with his display rated as 7.15 out of 10 by WhoScored.com as he made two saves and two high claims.
The Spaniard arrived at Villa Park this summer from Arsenal and his performance at the Emirates “proved a point” to his former club, according to one Villa fan on Twitter. Here is a selection of feedback on the 28-year-old’s display:
