Martinez described as “phenomenon” by Martinelli after Villa beat Leicester

Emiliano Martinez has been described as a “phenomenon” by former Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper kept a clean-sheet in his side’s 1-0 win away to Leicester City on Sunday night, producing a strong performance between the sticks.

Martinez’s display helped Villa keep up their 100 percent start to the Premier League season, meaning only they and AC Milan are the only teams in Europe’s top five leagues not to drop a point yet in 2020/21.

The Argentine took to Instagram to speak of his delight after the game, hailing four wins and three clean-sheets already this season.

Martinelli was one of the many to respond to the post, with the Arsenal striker simply writing “Fenomeno”, which is translated to “phenomenon”.

It is nice to see Martinez’s contribution being noticed from outside of Villa, too, with Martinelli close friends with the goalkeeper.

It has been an excellent start to life at Villa Park for the 28-year-old, who has played a key role in his side’s perfect start, proving to be a model of consistency and playing every minute in the league to date.

The fact that Bernd Leno was No.1 at Arsenal was always going to make it difficult for Martinez to fully make his mark at the Emirates, but he looks to have found a perfect home in which to thrive week in, week out.

matchday.
