Fans hope Nakamba is picked against Sheff Utd

Aston Villa beat Leeds United 1-0 on Saturday evening and Marvelous Nakamba was one of many players to impress at Elland Road, so much so that fans want him to start against Sheffield United on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old replaced Douglas Luiz in midfield over the weekend and delivered a combative display that resulted in Pascal Struijk and Tyler Roberts being hooked in the second half.

No Villa player made more interceptions, only one player blocked more shots, only one player won more freekicks and only two players made more tackles, so fans believe Nakamba should keep his place in the holding role.

Against Leeds, the 27-year-old played for 90 minutes, had 32 touches, won one aerial duel, made two tackles, blocked one shot, gave away one foul, made five interceptions and won two freekicks (WhoScored).

Nakamba has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season. He’s not been on the losing side in any league appearance and hasn’t conceded a goal in any league game he’s started (Transfermarkt).

The Zimbabwean international has certainly staked his claim to start ahead of Luiz against United and Dean Smith may grant him his wish.

Nakamba is a good omen for Villa this season. The Claret and Blues don’t lose when he features and don’t concede when he starts, so why take out an in-form player? He should start on Wednesday.
