Villa still ‘admirers’ of Abraham

Villa still ‘admirers’ of Abraham

Dean Smith has Ollie Watkins, Wesley Moraes and Keinan Davis at his disposal, but Wesley has been sidelined with a knee injury since January 2020 and Davis is on the periphery, so Aston Villa could benefit with another striker.

The Daily Telegraph say the Claret and Blues are still ‘admirers’ of Tammy Abraham and may have competition from West Ham United, Leicester City, Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old has an uncertain future at Chelsea, starting only 12 of the Blues’ 26 Premier League games this season and being an unused substitute in two of their last five under Thomas Tuchel (Transfermarkt).

He’s scored six league goals this season, the same as Jack Grealish, and isn’t seeing eye-to-eye with Chelsea on contract terms, so he may be considering his options.

Villa had the striker in the Midlands during their promotion-winning campaign of 2018/19, so it’s no surprise they want him back. Whether their pursuit is successful remains to be seen, however.

The Telegraph predict a lot of clubs might be in the market for Abraham, so Villa might struggle to land his signature. Time will tell.

Abraham would be a great addition to the Villa squad, but he won’t come cheap as he’s a young English striker who’s represented the national team and the Telegraph say he would prefer a long career at Chelsea, so this might be a difficult deal to pull off.
