Aston Villa travel to Brammall Lane to face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Wednesday evening and will still be without Matty Cash as he’s recovering from a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old missed Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City and 1-0 win over Leeds United but should be back later this month. Dean Smith revealed in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference that it won’t be tonight, however.
He said: “Matty Cash did some running yesterday and he was desperate to get involved in the ball work. The medical staff wouldn’t allow him to. After a hamstring injury, you have to tick a lot of boxes first. It was good to see him out there.”
Cash has made 21 appearances for Villa this season, picking up two assists (Transfermarkt). The 23-year-old was a regular at right-back before his injury, but Ahmed Elmohamady has deputised in his place.
The 33-year-old, who has made 11 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt), struggled against Leicester but put in a better performance against Leeds, so he should be trusted to do a job against Sheff Utd.
Cash is a loss for Villa, but the Claret and Blues are coming off the back of a win in his absence and have beaten the relegation-threatened Blades earlier in the season, so they should be able to cope.

It’s good news that Cash is back running, but Elmo can hold the fort without him, so he needn’t push himself too hard in his recovery.
