Aston Villa threw away a 1-0 lead against Manchester City and ended up suffering a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

It’s their seventh consecutive defeat to the Sky Blues and the 11th consecutive meeting they’ve failed to win, so Read Villa took a look at the last time Villa got one over City.

On September 28 in 2013, goals from Karim El Ahmadi, Leandro Bacuna and Andreas Weimann helped Villa put City to the sword with a 3-2 win, but they had to come from behind twice to do it.

City took the lead on the stroke of halftime from Yaya Toure converting a corner beyond Brad Guzan, but Villa replied minutes after the restart from El Ahmadi rifling low into the bottom corner.

Eden Dzeko headed home from a corner to give City another lead before the hour mark, but Villa levelled again with an outstanding freekick from Leandro Bacuno midway through the second half.

And the hosts sealed all three points late in the game when Weimann capitalised on a defensive error and stabbed past the onrushing Joe Hart to score, celebrating in front of his supporters.

That was eight years ago, however, so Villa need to end the one-way head-to-head record next time they face City.
