Aston Villa finished the weekend 10th in the Premier League, leapfrogging Leeds United in the table after beating Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park. The Whites suffered a 2-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion and now find themselves one place and one point behind Villa while having played one game more.
Dean Smith’s men are now on course to finish in the top-10 of the Premier League in their second season back, so Read Aston Villa looked into when the last time they achieved such a feat was. On this day ten years ago, Villa were 13th in the table and coming off of a defeat to West Bromwich Albion. They drew with Wigan Athletic and fell to 14th before beating Arsenal to move up a place in the table again. And after winning their final game of the season to Liverpool, Villa managed to snag 9th with 48 points.
Sunderland and West Brom were 10th and 11th respectively on 47 points while Newcastle United, Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers were 12th 13th, 14th on 46 points. Villa could go 8th this season if they win their game in hand, leapfrogging Arsenal of all clubs, so can they deliver?
