Douglas Luiz came in for a lot of criticism after Aston Villa’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United and responded to trolls on his Instagram stories, telling off fans that were abusing him.
He also did karaoke with a friend on video, shared a number of other happy pictures with supporters and published a video call with his mother on Mother’s Day.

Luiz was criticised heavily after giving away a penalty in Sunday’s defeat, so he posted a message to hit back on all the abuse, saying: “I am a passionate player for the club and I never wanted to commit a penalty like this and end up hurting the team and the result.”
The Brazilian midfielder added: “Now, who doesn’t understand me, **** you. I’m happy to be 23 years old. With many errors, I’m learning!! Thank you all for the messages you are sending me, as soon as I have time I will answer them all, I love you all. FAMILY.”
The 23-year-old then posted a video of him singing karaoke with a friend on Instagram before showing all the supportive messages from fans. There were many people who had pictures taken with Luiz in the past and they sent them to the under-fire midfielder to help cheer him up.
Luiz shared a lot of them on his page and then showed a video of him speaking with family to celebrate his birthday – he turned 23 on May 9, having been born in 1998.
Luiz will be hoping to put the United defeat behind him when Villa lock horns with Everton on Thursday.
