Jack Grealish trends on Twitter after Team of the Year announcement

Jack Grealish has been trending on Twitter after being left out of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher’s Premier League Team of the Year. Neville included Marcus Rashford in his front three while Carragher had Heung-min Son.

Grealish can feel hard done by not to feature in the TOTY after impressing in the first two thirds of the season. He’s been sidelined with a shin injury since mid-February and has been forgotten about by the Sky Sports pundits.

The 25-year-old has made 22 Premier League appearances this season, scoring six goals with 12 assists, so he’s averaged a goal/assist every 1.2 games. For England, he’s had a hand in two goals from five games.

Grealish has created 75 chances, made 61 successful dribbles, whipped in 73 crosses and been fouled 100 times in those 22 league outings, so he’s undoubtedly one of the best playmakers in the division.

But he’s been overlooked for Phil Foden who came to life in the second half of the Premier League campaign, so there’s a recency bias. Foden has seven goals and five assists in 28 league games, creating 35 chances and making 33 successful dribbles, so his statistics on the pitch pale in comparison.
