Ollie Watkins has enjoyed an outstanding debut season at Aston Villa which resulted in his featuring three times for England and Goal say he now finds himself on the radar of Liverpool.
The Reds have Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah who can operate at centre-forward, but it appears they’re on the hunt for a natural striker this summer.
Watkins scored 16 goals and made five assists in 40 appearances for Villa last season, showcasing his ability to play off the shoulder and link attacks by making unselfish runs to help his teammates.
It’s easy to see why a club like Liverpool would be interested, but the news hasn’t gone down well with Villa fans on social media. Reds supporters aren’t totally convinced Watkins is good enough for them either.
Regardless of whether Liverpool want the 25-year-old, Villa aren’t going to sell an indispensable player. Watkins is an essential part of the squad and would be difficult to replace, so it’s hard to see him being sold this summer. Time will tell, however.
