Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Brentford on Saturday and Ezri Konsa put in a good performance against his former club as captain, earning him praise in Birmingham Live’s player ratings.

The 23-year-old started alongside loanee Axel Tuanzebe and made more clearances than any of his teammates. And while Villa couldn’t pick up all three points at home, Konsa was proud to skipper the side and play his part in a well-earned draw. He posted a gallery of pictures on his Instagram and spoke about the ‘solid point’ he helped Villa earn.

Konsa played for 88 minutes, had 35 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 82.8% of his 29 passes, had one shot, blocked one shot, made four clearances and gave away one foul.

The England U21 international, who has been considered for the senior team without being called up, has made 71 appearances in all competitions since his 2019-move from Brentford scoring four goals with one assist.

Konsa has formed a formidable partnership with Tyrone Mings, but he proved he can perform with Tuanzebe too. Dean Smith should be delighted with his defensive options. After the international break, Villa travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on September 11.
