Aston Villa were eliminated from the League Cup by Chelsea on Wednesday evening, but Kortney Hause was one of many players who impressed – Birmingham Live singled him out for praise and gave him the joint-highest player rating.
The 26-year-old started alongside Axel Tuanzebe and was a rock at centre-back, limiting Timo Werner to only one shot on target and keeping Romelu Lukaku from having a shot at all when he came off the bench.
Not only did Hause make a last-man challenge to keep Villa in the game, no player won more headers, no player blocked more shots, no player made more clearances and only one player boasted a better pass completion ratio, so Hause was deservedly praised on social media by supporters.
Against Chelsea, the 26-year-old played for 90 minutes, had 52 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 87.1% of his 31 passes, blocked two shots, made nine clearances, made two tackles and had one interception. Hause put in an excellent performance, but it wasn’t enough to send Villa into the fourth round of the competition.
Supporters were delighted nevertheless, so time will tell who Dean Smith names in his defence when Villa lock horns with Manchester United on Saturday.
