Anwar El Ghazi has an uncertain future at Aston Villa after falling down the pecking order. The 26-year-old finds himself behind Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia and Bertrand Traore under Dean Smith and Football Insider say AS Roma are looking to capitalise on the situation.
The Serie A giants held talks with Villa over the summer without ever agreeing a deal and want to return for El Ghazi when the winter transfer window opens in January. The Netherlands international joined Villa on loan from LOSC Lille in 2018 and turned the move permanent in 2019.
El Ghazi has gone on to make 112 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals with 15 assists, but his time at Villa Park may be coming to an end. The 26-year-old scored a respectable 10 goals in 28 Premier League games last season but can’t get on the pitch for love nor money this campaign.
He’s featured in only three of eight league outings, scoring one goal. El Ghazi has two goals and two assists in two EFL Cup games, but he’s not getting a look in elsewhere. The Dutchman has been an unused substitute for Villa’s last five league games, so he may be given the green light to leave.
Football Insider say Roma could land his signature if they match his £18m asking price and fans on social media are resigned to losing him.
