Gerrard could solve big issue with renewed move for Luis Suarez
Aston Villa have not been particularly potent in front of goal so far this season, as only Bournemouth (44) have had fewer shots at goal than the Villans (67) in the Premier League.
In terms of what Steven Gerrard could do to help resolve this issue, particularly if it continues throughout the forthcoming weeks and months, he could potentially consider a move for a player he knows very well – Luis Suarez.
After being linked with a move to Villa during the January transfer window while he was at Atletico Madrid, the striker joined Nacional in his native Uruguay during the summer. However, it has since been revealed by Nacional president Jose Fuentes that Suarez will leave the club at the end of 2022.
With that in mind, it could be worth seeing Villa making a move to sign the former Liverpool and Barcelona star in the upcoming January transfer window as a free agent.
Having scored 441 goals in 709 appearances throughout his club career, with 82 of those goals coming for Liverpool, this shows just how deadly he is in front of goal and how capable he has been of excelling in England.
Described by Jamie Carragher as being “unplayable” at times, the 35-year-old has also been hailed by Gerrard as the best footballer he ever played alongside.
In fact, having played in 95 matches together at Liverpool, the two players racked up 19 joint goal participations (one every five games), illustrating a fruitful pre-existing relationship between the pair.
Last season saw the centre-forward score 11 goals in 35 La Liga appearances for Atletico, ultimately ending the campaign with more shots at goal (51) and more shots on target (23) than any other player at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Therefore, having someone of Suarez’s prowess in front of goal could be just what Villa need to get firing, especially if their shot-shy woes continue into the winter.
