Aston Villa: Ashley Preece drops exciting transfer claim
Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has dropped an exciting claim regarding the Midlands club’s potential plans for the next summer transfer window.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Preece had this to say about the club potentially looking to sign a new striker in the summer: “The striker situation interests me. Danny Ings, he’s entering the final year of his contract next season. Cameron Archer, I think he needs a loan in January as well. So I think I think a new number nine could be forthcoming next summer. I think Ollie Watkins has done well but I think they need a 20-goal-a-season man. Any club with hopes of finishing in the top six or seven needs a 20-goal striker.”
With seven league games played in this latest campaign, Villa have only managed to find the back of the net on six occasions, leaving just three clubs having scored fewer.
Only two of Villa’s six goals have come from the three strikers that Preece spoke about, with Watkins and Ings grabbing one each, whereas Archer has only played 11 minutes of action for Steven Gerrard’s side.
This shows how much the club could do with getting their hands on a striker that has what it takes to be a regular goalscorer for Villa.
Bearing in mind how the club have shown over recent years just how active they can be in the transfer market and how capable they are when it comes to shelling out significant amounts of money to bring new players to the club, this should fill the Villa fans with confidence that the same thing will happen again in the summer.
If the club are able to bring in a centre-forward that can find the back of the net consistently that Gerrard can rely on to get his side plenty of goals, this will surely give him a big boost to his chances of pushing the club forward.
Moving forward, if the Villans continue with their struggles in front of goal, securing a striker either in the upcoming January transfer window or in the summer should definitely be at the top of their priority list.
