Journalist drops worrying Douglas Luiz claim

Aston Villa reportedly turned down three transfer bids from Arsenal during the summer transfer window for midfielder Douglas Luiz.

However, with the January transfer window on the way and with the 24-year-old’s contract at Villa set to expire at the end of the season, journalist Ben Jacobs has dropped a claim regarding the Brazilian’s future and a potential move to the Emirates Stadium.

Jacobs expects another Arsenal offer

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs said: “I think he is a player that Arsenal really want and it wouldn’t remotely surprise me if a third bid is going to be tabled for Luiz, especially with Thomas Partey’s injury issues.

“The bid will be less, so it’s not a continuation of previous negotiations. It’s brand new, based on form and based on time.

“All of that work and effort that went into the failed pursuit over the summer will only really have a bearing because the player’s head has been turned and he is very much open to the move.”

Villa fans should be worried

Since joining the Midlands club from Manchester City in 2019 for a fee of £15m, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 119 appearances in a Villa shirt across all competitions.

This season has seen Luiz show how useful he is for Steven Gerrard’s side by racking up the joint-second highest number of key passes (six) at the club, and also the joint-second highest rate of shot-creating action per 90 minutes (2.94).

With an overall performance rating of 6.66/10 from WhoScored, only four outfield players at Villa have higher ratings than the midfielder.

Taking all this into account, Jacobs’ claim that Luiz would be open to joining Arsenal should have a lot of Villa supporters worried that one of their club’s most important players could be on his way out of Villa Park in the near future.
