Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring River Plate goalkeeper Santiago Beltran as the club continue to assess long-term options behind Emi Martinez.
Sport Witness reports that claims from Argentina have placed Villa among the clubs keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old.
The line remains at scouting level. There is no suggestion of a formal offer or club-to-club talks at this stage.
That distinction matters. Villa are not being framed as active bidders. They are being linked with an early look at a young goalkeeper whose River Plate rise has started to draw European attention.
River Plate Already Face Beltran Decision
Beltran’s emergence explains why Villa’s name has appeared in the conversation.
Sport Witness relays that he has played 26 senior matches since his January debut, conceding only 18 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.
Transfermarkt lists Beltran as a River Plate goalkeeper under contract until December 2027. His market value is currently listed at €9m.
The same Sport Witness report says River are already aware of growing interest. They are said to be considering a stronger release clause, with the current figure placed at around €21.3m.
For Villa, this looks less like an imminent move and more like succession planning.
Martinez remains the defining figure in the goalkeeping department. Even so, Unai Emery’s recruitment team cannot afford to wait until the market forces the issue.
ReadAstonVilla has already covered how Villa have held talks around Guillaume Restes as part of their Martinez succession planning. Beltran now fits into the same wider search for younger goalkeeper options.
He is precisely the type of high-upside profile worth tracking early. If rival interest grows, River could move quickly to protect his value before the winter window.
For now, Villa have another South American file worth keeping warm.
