Aston Villa Transfers: Every Summer 2026 Departure, Fee And Replacement Target

Aston Villa’s summer 2026 transfer business has so far been defined as much by who is leaving Villa Park as who is arriving. Unai Emery has already sanctioned seven senior departures, ranging from a forward who scored goals for fun on loan in Serie A to an experienced midfielder triggering his own release clause, and each exit has opened a different hole for Villa’s recruitment team to fill.

This guide brings together every confirmed or advanced Aston Villa transfer out this summer, the fee and stats attached to each one, and the players being lined up to replace them, updated as of 14 July 2026.

Which Players Have Aston Villa Sold This Summer?

Villa’s confirmed and near-confirmed outgoing business covers four different areas of the pitch. Donyell Malen completed a permanent £21.6million move to Roma after an initial loan, Enzo Barrenechea’s loan-to-buy switch to Benfica was finalised for £10.3million, and Louie Barry left for Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee. Lewis Dobbin’s £9million move to Southampton was agreed with a medical booked, and Andrés García is closing in on a season-long loan to Getafe. Two bigger names are further along than confirmed but essentially done: Youri Tielemans is mid-medical at Manchester United after United triggered his £35million release clause, and Lucas Digne has a verbal agreement to rejoin Paris Saint-Germain once his release clause, reported at under £10million, is activated after the World Cup. Villa have also released eight academy players as free transfers and let four scholars go, part of a wider squad trim rather than first-team business.

Why Are Aston Villa Losing Youri Tielemans, And Who Could Replace Him?

Tielemans, 29, was under contract until 2028 and contributed two goals and seven assists in 35 appearances last season, but a £35million release clause gave Villa no real say once Manchester United decided to trigger it. His exit compounds an already thin midfield after Amadou Onana’s serious knee injury at the World Cup, and Villa are said to be accelerating a search for a like-for-like option. Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall, 20, has told Spurs he wants to leave and would consider Villa Park, though his form this season (one goal, three assists in 23 Premier League appearances) is unproven at this level compared with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, 22, who made 2,562 Premier League minutes with five assists last season and is viewed as the more polished, ready-made option. Parma’s Mandela Keita and Villarreal’s Pape Gueye have also been discussed internally by Emery’s recruitment staff, though no formal approach has been made for any of the four as of 14 July.

What Happens At Left-Back After Lucas Digne’s Exit?

Digne made 182 appearances since joining from Everton in January 2022, and his likely exit leaves a gap Villa have already started to address without spending in the transfer market. Ian Maatsen, signed from Chelsea in 2024, is now viewed as Villa’s long-term first-choice left-back rather than Digne’s understudy. Behind him, Villa have opened talks over AC Milan’s Pervis Estupiñán, 27, as competition and cover; the Ecuador international made 19 Serie A appearances and 1,035 minutes last season after falling behind Davide Bartesaghi in Milan’s pecking order, and no formal offer has yet been submitted.

Who Replaces Donyell Malen After His Move To Roma?

Malen’s sale tells its own story: the Dutch forward scored 10 goals in 46 appearances for Villa before a January loan to Roma, where he then produced 14 goals and two assists in 18 Serie A games to force through a permanent £21.6million transfer. With Jadon Sancho’s loan spell over and Leon Bailey’s Villa Park future uncertain, Emery is short of proven wide options and has made West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville his priority target. The Dutch winger scored seven goals and added five assists in 34 appearances for West Ham last season, though the Hammers want around £50million and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly preparing a combined bid for Summerville and teammate Mateus Fernandes. A long-standing interest in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres looks to have faded after PSG reached an agreement in principle with the Spaniard on 11 July.

What Do Villa’s Other Confirmed Sales Mean For The Squad?

Enzo Barrenechea’s move to Benfica was always likely to become permanent once he reached 15 appearances on loan in Lisbon, triggering an obligation-to-buy clause worth £10.3million in total; the Argentine had already spent the previous season out on loan at Valencia. Lewis Dobbin, 23, never made a competitive first-team appearance for Villa after his 2024 move from Everton, but a productive loan at Preston North End (10 goals, eight assists) persuaded Southampton to pay £9million plus add-ons.

Louie Barry’s permanent exit to Sheffield Wednesday closes a longer story: the winger joined Villa from Barcelona back in 2020, scored on his senior debut against Liverpool in the FA Cup and won the FA Youth Cup at the club, but went out on nine separate loan spells — including Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Hull City and two stints at Stockport County — without ever nailing down a Villa Park role. Andrés García’s move is smaller still: signed from Levante in January for around £5million, he managed only ten appearances before Villa opened the door to a loan away, with Getafe now closing in as Villa’s own reporting on his stalling Villa future had long suggested was coming. Neither departure reshapes the first team, but both trim wages and squad numbers Emery no longer needs.

How Much Have Aston Villa Made From Sales So Far, And What Comes Next?

Villa’s confirmed permanent sales this summer already total more than £41million from Malen, Barrenechea and Dobbin alone, before any fee for Tielemans or Digne is banked or Barry’s undisclosed fee and García’s loan terms are factored in. That income gives Emery’s rebuild useful breathing room under Premier League and UEFA financial rules, even before Johan Manzambi’s incoming transfer from Freiburg, reported north of £51million, is completed.

With pre-season training now underway at Bodymoor Heath and Villa’s first friendlies against Walsall, Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach approaching in August, the club’s balance of one marquee midfield arrival against seven senior departures leaves Emery still working the phones for a Tielemans replacement and left-back cover before the World Cup-delayed transfer window builds toward its 1 September deadline.
