Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of João Gomes after the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder completed his medical at Bodymoor Heath.
The Brazil international underwent the required checks on Friday as Villa moved through the final stages of the transfer.
According to The Athletic reporter Jacob Tanswell, Gomes also met his prospective new team-mates during his visit to the club’s training ground.
Villa must now complete the contract, registration and remaining administrative work before officially announcing the 25-year-old.

Unai Emery’s side reached an agreement with Wolves earlier this week after Gomes left their pre-season training camp in Portugal.
The deal is believed to include an initial payment of €40m, with a further €5m available through add-ons. The complete package is worth around £38m.
As Read Aston Villa reported when Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement, personal terms were not expected to cause any problems.
Gomes will arrive following Youri Tielemans’ £35m transfer to Manchester United. Villa also need additional midfield depth because Amadou Onana faces a lengthy absence with a serious knee injury.
The former Flamengo player made 130 appearances for Wolves after joining the club in January 2023. His Premier League experience, pressing and ball-winning ability should provide Emery with an immediate option.
Villa have already completed a club-record move for Johan Manzambi during an aggressive midfield rebuild.
Gomes passing his medical leaves his transfer close to completion, with an official announcement now expected once the final paperwork is approved.
