Douglas Luiz has confirmed that he wants to remain at Juventus after Aston Villa decided against signing him permanently.
Luiz’s return ended following a six-month loan spell, with the midfielder now determined to rebuild his career in Turin.
Luiz returned to Villa Park in January after spending the first half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.
The Brazilian provided valuable midfield cover during injuries to Youri Tielemans and John McGinn, making several starts after arriving from Juventus.
However, his involvement decreased once Unai Emery’s senior midfielders returned. Villa subsequently decided against activating their option to complete a permanent transfer.
ReadAstonVilla previously reported that Villa would not trigger their option to sign Luiz permanently, bringing his second spell at the club to an end.
Douglas Luiz Aston Villa return ends with Juventus plan
Luiz has now returned to Juventus and scored during their pre-season victory over Nice.
Speaking afterwards, the 28-year-old made his preferred next step clear.
“My priority now is to stay here and show everything I can do, my best for this club,” Luiz told TMW, as relayed by Birmingham Live.
Luiz believes his pre-season performances provide an opportunity to demonstrate why Juventus signed him from Villa in 2024.
His first campaign in Turin proved difficult because of injuries and inconsistent form. Loan spells with Forest and Villa followed, but neither club completed a permanent deal.
Winning the Europa League nevertheless provided a memorable conclusion to the Douglas Luiz Aston Villa return.
The midfielder must now convince Juventus that he can become an important player again rather than seek another move away from Turin.
