Aston Villa make repeated contact for Brazil star as £60m exit threat grows

Roger Ibañez in action for Al-Ahli amid Aston Villa transfer interest

Roger Ibañez is reportedly attracting serious Aston Villa interest as Unai Emery considers his defensive options amid continued uncertainty over Ezri Konsa’s future.

Villa have made repeated contact over the Al-Ahli centre-back, with the Brazil international emerging as a potential option if another defender is required before the transfer window closes.

Konsa remains an important part of Emery’s side, but Arsenal continue to be linked with another move while Liverpool have also monitored his situation.

ReadAstonVilla analysed earlier on Saturday why losing Konsa would create a major problem even if Villa receive their reported £60million valuation.

Ibañez could offer one possible solution.

Roger Ibanez Aston Villa interest intensifies

Fresh reporting says Aston Villa have remained in repeated contact over Ibañez, with the defender reportedly pausing discussions over a new Al-Ahli contract while Premier League interest develops.

The 27-year-old has significant experience at a high level after spells with Atalanta and Roma before moving to Saudi Arabia.

He also worked under José Mourinho during his time in Italy and helped Roma win the Europa Conference League in 2022.

Ibañez would bring pace, aggression and experience playing in a back three or four. That versatility could appeal to Emery, particularly if Villa lose a defender capable of covering multiple positions.

Nothing suggests a deal is close and Konsa has not yet left Villa. However, repeated contact indicates the club are preparing for different possibilities before the window closes.

Villa have already strengthened several areas this summer. Defence could become the next priority if the Konsa situation develops.
