Woody Burgess is continuing to strengthen his case for greater first-team involvement at Aston Villa.
The 19-year-old has become a regular for Villa’s Under-21s this season and started again as James Shan’s side drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough at Bodymoor Heath on Friday.
Burgess has now featured prominently throughout the opening weeks of the Premier League 2 campaign.
Burgess catches attention at Aston Villa
Yahoo Sports believes Burgess could soon be knocking on Unai Emery’s door following his recent academy performances.
The defender has started Villa’s opening Premier League 2 fixtures and was trusted with the captaincy during the 3-3 draw away at Fulham earlier this month.
His progress adds another name to an Aston Villa academy pathway already producing senior options for Emery.
Emery has pathway available
Burgess has already had exposure around Villa’s first team, having featured during the club’s friendly programme earlier this year.
Villa have increasingly given academy players routes into Emery’s senior group, with George Hemmings providing the clearest recent example after progressing from prospect to regular first-team involvement.
Burgess still has work to do before earning competitive senior minutes.
However, consistent U21 performances are giving Emery another young player to monitor closely during the international break.
