John McGinn is an important player for Aston Villa, but the 27-year-old might have an uncertain future amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Antonio Conte is keeping an eye on the box-to-box midfielder as he seeks to build a squad capable of competing on all fronts next season, but Noel Whelan doesn’t believe Steven Gerrard would […]
Matt Targett is likely to leave Aston Villa this summer after being replaced by Everton’s Lucas Digne and then being loaned out to Newcastle United in January. It remains to be seen whether St James’ Park is his next destination, however, as Eddie Howe is weighing up alternatives at left-back. Targett impressed on loan at […]
Aston Villa have signed Diego Carlos on a five-year deal from Sevilla, paying £26m for the 29-year-old. Carlos nearly left to join Newcastle United in January but was denied a move as Sevilla couldn’t locate a replacement mid-season. The Magpies offered more money for Carlos than Villa too, so this could be a shrewd signing […]
Ezri Konsa was outstanding for Aston Villa last season, playing in 36 of their 38 Premier League games as they conceded 46 goals and picked up 15 clean sheets. The 24-year-old was being considered for an England call up off the back of his form too, but he’s spiralled this campaign. Konsa remained a regular […]
Aston Villa are keen to sign Calvin Bassey after his outstanding season at Rangers, but Charlie Nicholas believes he’ll fetch a tidy penny give how many other clubs may be interested this summer. Jed Steer’s future at Aston Villa was up in the air when Steven Gerrard signed Robin Olsen on loan from AS Roma in January, but he’ll be resigned to his fate now the Villa manager is seeking a permanent deal for the 32-year-old. Gregg Evans of The Athletic says Gerrard wants to sign Olsen this […]
Danny Ings scored seven goals with six assists in 30 Premier League games for Aston Villa last season. The 29-year-old had a hand in one goal every 2.3 league outings on average which sounds like a good return, but the £26.5m signing endured droughts in his debut campaign that raise uncertainty over his future at […]
Aston Villa worked hard to sign Philippe Coutinho for 50% less money than Barcelona were requesting and convinced the 29-year-old to accept a 70% pay cut, so it’s clear they’re trying to save money to balance the books after years of unfettered spending. Bringing in Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille and […]
Although Aston Villa signed Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille, Steven Gerrard may still be keen to sign another defensive-midfielder this summer. Morgan Sanson is expected to leave after struggling for playing time, so Kamara would be his replacement. Gerrard might want to upgrade Marvelous Nakamba, however, so a bigger name could […]
Philippe Coutinho turned his loan move permanent at Aston Villa after a positive loan spell from Barcelona, so Steven Gerrard can plan for next season with the Brazilian playmaker at his disposal. The 29-year-old made 19 Premier League appearances in his five months at Villa Park, scoring five goals with three assists while creating 25 […]
Emiliano Buendia finished the season on a high, scoring two goals with two assists in his last six Premier League appearances, but his whole debut season at Aston Villa was inconsistent. The 25-year-old was a regular under Dean Smith and consistently played under Steven Gerrard (35/38 Premier League appearances in 2021/22), but Buendia flattered to […]
Kortney Hause could be made available for sale this summer after falling down the pecking order under Steven Gerrard, so a like-for-like replacement may be required in the transfer market. Aston Villa need a defender who is dominant in the air and difficult to get shots past, but they don’t have the budget for an […]
