Tyrone Mings at Aston Villa

Initially, Aston Villa signed Mings on loan during January 2019. Immediately, he steadied a struggling Championship defence. Crucially, he played in the 2019 play-off final victory over Derby County. Consequently, Villa returned to the Premier League, where Matty Cash later joined him. Afterwards, the club made the move permanent in July 2019.

Meanwhile, Villa named him club captain in August 2021. Subsequently, Steven Gerrard passed the armband to John McGinn in 2022. Later, a serious knee injury cost him over a year from August 2023. Eventually, he returned to the first team during October 2024. Ultimately, he played in the 2026 Europa League final victory.

Career Before Aston Villa

Previously, Tyrone Mings took an unusual route into the professional game. Initially, Southampton released him as a teenager. Afterwards, he played non-league football for Yate Town and Chippenham Town. Meanwhile, he worked as a barman and a mortgage adviser. Eventually, Ipswich Town signed him in December 2012.

Soon, he developed into a first-choice left-back. Notably, he won the Championship Player of the Month award in September 2014. Overall, he made 57 league appearances for Ipswich. Subsequently, Bournemouth signed him in June 2015. However, a knee injury restricted him to 17 league games there.
