Steve Bruce is the leading contender to replace Remi Garde, should Villa fail to convince Nigel Pearson to take over at Villa Park, according to the Independent.
Bruce, who currently manages Hull City in the Championship, has been second favourite to take over at Villa Park behind Nigel Pearson, since Remi Garde’s tenure in B6 was brought to an end in March.
However, competition for Pearson’s signature is fierce, with a number of Championship clubs hoping to lure Pearson to their clubs in order to get promoted to the Premier League, an achievement he accomplished with Leicester in 2014.

Bruce, who has overseen one promotion and one relegation, as well as an FA Cup final appearance in 2014, currently has Hull fourth in the Championship with automatic promotion just out of their reach.
The former Manchester United defender has history with taking teams from the Championship to the Premier League, having done so with Birmingham City in 2002 and 2007, whilst also achieving the feat with Hull in 2013.
However, his record whilst in the Premier League is less than perfect, with two relegation’s to his name, as well as being sacked as Sunderland manager in 2011 following a poor start to the season.
Would you be happy with Steve Bruce as manager?
