Aston Villa set to make 500 staff members redundant

Aston Villa are set to make up to 500 members of staff redundant, according to a report from Graeme Brown of the Birmingham Mail.

This is just the latest piece of bad news to come out of the Midlands club this week after they were officially relegated. Half of their directors have resigned and captain Gabby Agbonlahor has been suspended after he was pictured with laughing gas canisters as a party.

According to Brown’s report, Villa will be reducing their 1600 workforce to around 1100, with the positions of full-time, part-time and matchday staff all at risk as the club looks to restructure.

Villa are apparently hopeful that the majority of job losses will be voluntary although they have not ruled out any compulsory redundancies at this time.

Villa need to balance the books after recording pre-tax losses of around £27million as of June 2015 and with relegation confirmed, they are likely to take another financial hit.
