Chinese consortium linked with Aston Villa takeover

A Chinese consortium are reportedly interested in taking over Aston Villa and if successful, they’d like to hire former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur Director of Football Damien Comolli as a technical director.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, current Villa owner Randy Lerner is willing to sell the club for £75 million and chairman Steve Hollis is speaking to three interested parties, including the aforementioned Chinese consortium, in a bid to get a deal done.

Percy’s report goes on to say that Comolli, who was once a scout at Arsenal, has already begun to do his homework on Villa’s current set-up and academy system as he prepares himself for a potential employment offer in the future.

Comolli’s previous roles in English football have seen him working with teams at the upper end of the Premier League table so it’ll be interesting to see how he does in the Championship, if he is indeed appointed by Villa.
