Aston Villa are in talks to sign Fenerbahce midfielder Raul Meireles, according to Turkish-Football.com.
The 33-year-old, who was part of the Chelsea squad that won the Champions League in 2012, is out of contract with Fenerbahce in the summer and the club have admitted that they will not be offering the Portuguese international a new deal.
Meireles, who also had a spell in with Liverpool in 2010/11, has had an injury-hit campaign, which is one of the reasons why Fenerbahce are letting him go.
He’s reportedly earning €2million-per-year in Turkey so would have to take a pay cut to join Villa and it is not yet known if he is happy to play in the Championship, although there are no reports of any other interested parties at this stage.
The vastly experienced midfielder would be a welcome addition to the Villa squad as they look to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
