Defender announces Aston Villa exit

Aston Villa defender Lewis Kinsella has announced, via social media, that he has not been offered a new contract by the club and he will, therefore, depart Villa Park this summer.

The 21-year-old moved from Arsenal to Aston Villa as a youngster and joined the club’s academy.

Kinsella played in the U21s play-off final defeat to Arsenal earlier this week but that will be his last appearance in claret and blue.

The young left-back never made a senior appearance but he was involved in matchday squads under Tim Sherwood but once he was sacked, it seemed to be the end of the road for Kinsella.

He has had loan spells with Luton Town and Kidderminster Harriers in recent seasons and is likely to be taken on by a lower league club.

The highlight of his Villa career will probably be being part of the young team that won the NextGen Series in 2013.
