Player Ratings – Newcastle United

Aston Villa scrapped for a point in a game that should have really been put out of sight by Newcastle United in the first half.

On the balance of play though a 1-1 draw was the fair result with Roberto Di Matteo’s half time change, Aaron Tshibola heading in a late equaliser.

Tommy Elphick had put into his own goal from a Matt Ritchie cross to make it 1-0 to Newcastle midway through the first half but the Magpies failed to capitalise with Pierluigi Gollini saving Villa on numerous occasions from point blank range.

Roberto Di Matteo switched back to a 4-3-3 system in the second half with the initial 5-3-2 formation not paying off for the second game in a row.

The Villans travel to Barnsley on Tuesday night whilst Newcastle United have a tricky game against Norwich City on Wednesday.
