Aston Villa have sacked Roberto Di Matteo just 124 days after appointing him as the club’s manager.
The Italian was brought in due his experience of guiding a Championship team to promotion, but after winning just one of his 11 league games, the club have decided to move on.
Villa sit in 19th place in the league table, 13 points behind the automatic promotion places and more worryingly, just two points above the relegation zone.

The 2-0 defeat away to Preston North End sealed Di Matteo’s fate as the travelling Villa fans let their feelings of anger and discontent be known at the full-time whistle.
The sacking of Di Matteo keeps the managerial merry-go-round spinning at Villa park with the club now looking for their seventh permanent manager since Martin O’Neill’s departure in 2010.
Steve Clarke will be in charge of the team on a caretaker basis whilst Dr Tony Xia and his board begin the search for a new manager.
