According to BBC Sports broadcaster Pat Murphy, Aston Villa’s chief executive Keith Wyness has held ‘exploratory’ talks with Steve Bruce regarding the vacant managerial post at the club.
Twitter: Steve Bruce had exploratory talks with Keith Wyness Villa’s chief exec 3 times since Wed,the last a 20 mins chat y’day. Waiting for the 1/2 (@patmurphybbc)
It was reported just yesterday that both Steve Clarke and Bruce were in the running for the job but it clearly appears as though the latter is the front runner in the chase to be the Villa manager.

However, Murphy has also stated that there have been no genuine formal talks or interviews with Bruce, but more as though he’s been sounded out and considered for the job.
Twitter: 2/2 club to get back to him now. No formal interview as yet. Bruce told the ‘process was ongoing’. Steve Clarke shouldn’t be ruled out #avfc (@patmurphybbc)
The experienced boss has been without a job for the opening months of the season now after his tenure with Hull City came to an end, so he’ll be looking to get back into footballing management and it seems as though Villa are keen to take that opportunity with both hands.
Villa and their fans alike will be hoping that if they can appoint Bruce in the coming days, he will lead them to a promotion charge after a slow start to life back in the Championship.
