Phil Neville turns down Aston Villa

Phil Neville has rejected the chance to be a part of the Aston Villa backroom staff as he looks to pursue his ambitions of becoming a manager, himself, according to a report from The Telegraph

Neville was a target for Villa as they looked to find an appropriate assistant manager for the remainder of the Championship season but it looks as though they’ll have to look elsewhere if they are to appoint another high profile man to be second in command.

Chief executive Keith Wyness is said to be a great admirer of the former Everton and Manchester United defender but even after holding talks over a potential role behind the scenes with Villa, the 39-year-old has decided that he wants to remain focussed on becoming a first-team manager.

Neville was an attractive prospect for Villa and their board given his previous experience of being a coach at a very high level but it looks like he’s decided to focus on becoming a manager rather than take a role as an assistant.
