On Tuesday evening, Steve Bruce inspired Villa to their first away win in 14 months. However, Villa fans were then reminded of another depressing stat which goes back further than this; it has been around 17 months since Villa recorded back-to-back victories.
You will have to go all the way back to May 2015 to find the last time Villa managed to win two games on the bounce. Tim Sherwood was in charge then and Villa beat Everton 3-2 on the 2nd May and followed this up with a 1-0 win over West Ham a week later.
However, not content with getting the away day victory monkey off his new team’s back, Bruce, with a 1-0 over Fulham, has now gotten the back-to-back wins monkey off his team’s back. If he keeps this up, he might soon become one of Villa’s most successful managers in recent years; although, admittedly that doesn’t take much.
Next up for Bruce is a trip to St. Andrews on the 30th October to take on Birmingham. Villa fans will except nothing but three points here and, if Villa do go on to win, it would be the first time that they have won three matches back-to-back since April 2010.
