Aston Villa have announced that they have signed Manchester united goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan until the end of the season.
The question now becomes about Johnstone’s role in the squad. United want to send Johnstone out on loan to get game time as he’s currently behind both David de Gea and Sergio Romero in the pecking order, so they’ll likely want to send him somewhere where he will play games, so loaning him to be a backup would make little sense.
Mark Bunn recently took over from Pierluigi Gollini as the current first choice ‘keeper and he’s playing pretty well so it will be interesting to see what Steve Bruce does when the new keeper comes into the squad.
Jose Mourinho recently spoke about Johnstone and said that he is the only United player moving out on loan to get game time, so it’s reasonable to think that he’s had some assurances but time will tell.
