Former Aston Villa star Stewart Downing is on Steve Bruce’s list of transfer targets, according to a report in the Birmingham Mail.
The 32-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Middlesbrough and as such, manager Aitor Karanka is willing to sanction a loan move for him.
Crystal Palace are leading the race for Downing given their Premier League status and as the former England international played some of his best football under Sam Allardyce at West Ham but Newcastle are also interested in bringing him on loan until the end of the season.

Villa are seemingly interested in bringing him too and he would add some experience to the side and he is familiar with the Championship having played in it last year for his hometown club.
Downing spent two years at Villa Park between 2011 and 2013 before leaving for Liverpool and having already had a second spell at Boro, Steve Bruce would seemingly like to hand him another spell with Villa.
