Villa defender looks set to leave club and join Birmingham City

Young Aston Villa defender Ben Swift looks set to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires and he could be about to make a short journey.

The 19-year-old becomes a free agent at the end of the current campaign and Villa have allowed him to go on trial with local rivals Birmingham City.

The Blues confirmed on their official website that the Villa man played in a game for the club’s U23s against Sheffield United U23s on Monday evening.

He usually plays at left-back but he started the game at centre-back for Birmingham as they lost 3-1 at the Autotech Stadium.

It’s no surprise to see that Swift looks set to leave the club as he’s hardly even featured for the U23 side and he looks nowhere near making a breakthrough to the first team at this stage.

A move away looks like the best deal for all parties.
