A report in the Birmingham Mail has reported that Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason will be out for 6-8 weeks after having picked up a bad knee injury in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Rotherham United.
The Icelandic international, who was a substitute for the victories over Derby County and Bristol City, was making his first start for the side since the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle two weeks ago. However, he only lasted 33 minutes before he had to leave the pitch in obvious agony. He was later seen leaving the ground on crutches.
Since his arrival from Swiss side FC Basel in the January transfer window, he has been in and out of the side and used in a variety of different roles by Steve Bruce. However, now it looks like the midfielder is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines which will see him miss most of Villa’s 11 remaining games, if not all of them.
Villa have had a horrid time with injuries as of late and currently have nine players in the treatment room. They will be hoping that the footballing Gods are kinder on them in the coming weeks, or they could soon find themselves having to look to the development squad to plug the gaps.
