Andre Green set for a first-team return after injury

Aston Villa have been handed a timely injury boost as Andre Green is poised to return to the first-team squad after recovering from injury, the Birmingham Mail report.

The talented teenage winger picked up a hamstring injury during the win over Bristol City last month and hasn’t featured in each of the last three games for the Villains but it appears he’s back fit and ready to contribute.

Green made his Aston Villa debut last season but was really handed his first real chance in the first-team by Roberto Di Matteo who featured the winger in each of the club’s first six games in all competitions this season.

The 18-year-old then spent the entirety of the Autumn months with the U23 squad before being recalled to the matchday squad for the trip to Wolves in January where he made his first appearance in nearly five months.

Steve Bruce played the England U19 international in eight of the next nine fixtures, including four starts, where he impressed as Villa enjoyed a much needed return to form but he has been missed since picking up that injury.

Villa are hopeful that Green is able to play some part in the game against Wigan this weekend.
