This is Bruce’s long term plan for Samba

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce wants Christopher Samba to remain at the club until the summer, so that he can begin pre-season training with them in preparation for the season ahead.

Samba, 33, started training at Bodymoor Heath two months ago after his spell in Greece with Panathinaikos ended last year.

The experienced Congolese defender has proven to be a popular figure among the Villa players and Bruce wants him to prolong his stay before making a call on him next season.

When asked about Samba, Bruce replied:

“He’s still here. Nothing’s changed. I hope he stays until the end of the season and does pre-season with us. If he gets himself fit, and that’s what he’s here for, then that will suit him and it will suit me too.”

Samba featured in a closed-doors friendly shortly after he arrived in Birmingham, before taking part in an U23s match against Wolves at Molineux. He impressed Bruce in both matches.

Bruce is on the look out for another central defender with Chester, Baker and Elphick all vying for two slots, while Jedinak has slotted into the ehart of the defence as of late.
