The Birmingham Mail has revealed that Aston Villa’s match against Arminia Bielefeld has been cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Claret and Blues announced this friendly only last week after the original fixture against Dutch side Vitess Arnhem was cancelled because it did not feature a German team.
However, the referee for tonight’s 6pm kick-off at Heidewaldstadion has inspected the pitch this afternoon and has deemed it unfit to play football on.
Villa have already enjoyed pre-season friendlies against Kidderminster Harriers, Telford United, Walsall, and Shrewsbury Town, while they also played MSV Duisburg and Hertha Berlin in two 45-minute matches on their way to winning the Cup of Traditions last Sunday.
The squad will now travel back to England so that they can prepare for their final pre-season friendly against Watford on Saturday 29th July. This match will be a tribute to the late Graham Taylor, who managed both these sides.
