Villa reject Sunderland offer for Elphick
Aston Villa have rejected a loan offer from Sunderland for defender Tommy Elphick.
According to Sky Sports, Sunderland came in with an offer to take Elphick on loan for the season, but Villa are unwilling to let the defender go.
Villa were keen to move Elphick on earlier this summer, although an injury to Chris Samba has now put a damper on those plans.
With the injury to Samba, Steve Bruce needs Elphick as cover at the heart of the defence.
Elphick will now be competing with John Terry and James Chester for a spot in the team.
The report also claims that Brentford were interested in Elphick. Brentford sold defender Harlee Dean to Birmingham earlier today.
Elphick could now have to wait until January to make his move away from the club and get back to playing regularly.
Steve Bruce has just over a day to complete his business for the summer.
