Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has revealed that he hopes the injury to midfielder Mile Jedinak is only short term and expects the Australian to be back in action before Christmas, according to a report on BBC Sport.

The 33-year-old went off injured for Villa in the 2-0 victory over Ipswich on the weekend.

Jedinak dropped from the Premier League to join Villa from Crystal Palace for £4m in August 2016 and has since made 40 appearances for the club.

Bruce said:

He has seen a specialist and we have been advised to leave it alone and see where it is in the next week to 10 days.

We hope that he doesn’t need the operation and that it repairs itself. He should be back at Christmas but if it doesn’t go well and he needs an operation, then we are talking two to three months.

The midfielder was a National hero when his hat-trick sent Australia to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and is hoping to get himself fully fit for the tournament.

Villa are pushing for promotion to the Premier League and are currently fourth in the Championship and are preparing to face promotion rivals Leeds United on Friday night.
