Villa dealt blow in chase for Sam Johnstone

Aston Villa have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of on loan goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Manchester United loanee this week signed a new deal at Old Trafford, meaning that if Villa want to sign the goalkeeper in the January transfer window, they’ll have to play a higher price.

Villa owner owner Dr Tony Xia has constantly relayed his desire to make the transfer permanent in the summer, but now it looks to be a tough ask if Villa want to keep the Mancunian in the second city.

The 24 year old has been ever-present for the Villans so far this season, appearing in all 34 Championship fixtures to date for Steve Bruce’s side.

Although Villa may have to pay more for Johnstone in the Summer, they know what a vital player he could be if Aston Villa are to get promoted back to the Premier League this season.
