Villa agree deal for ‘significant investment’
Aston Villa have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens that will see ‘significant investment’ put into the club.
As per a statement on the club’s official website, Villa announced that Dr Tony Xia reached an agreement with the pair following concerns over the long-term future of the club.
It had been suggested that the club were closing in on another cash crisis behind the scenes following a summer of uncertainty surrounding the club
Their arrival will see Xia become the club’s co-chairman, but stay involved in the process of running the club.
Xia spoke of his delight after finally securing a deal.
I am extremely pleased to have formed a strategic partnership with Nassef and Wes. We have a common goal of delivering future success for Aston Villa and I look forward to working together to achieve this aim.
Sawiris and Edens have explained their aims for the club going forward.
Our goal is to bring sustainable success to the Club, building on its rich history while respecting its loyal fan base and unique culture. We understand that we are stewards of Aston Villa on behalf of the fans and we take that responsibility seriously.
Attention will quickly turn to building a squad capable of battling for promotion next season. Jack Grealish is closing in on a move away from the club, but Steve Bruce’s transfer business has been hampered as a result of the off-the-field problems.
