Villa considering move for Dijon striker Tavares

Aston Villa are interested in a deadline day move for Julio Tavares of Ligue 1 side Dijon.

The physical striker is the subject of an “assessment” according to a report in the Daily Mail, with a £2.5 million rumoured to be around the desired fee.

Tavares joined Dijon prior to the 2012-13 season, and has cemented his status as a club stalwart in his time in Eastern France, making 200 appearances for the ‘The Mustards’.

Scoring 67 goals in that time, the 29-year-old could find himself a key part of Steve Bruce’s plans for the 2018-19 season.

With attacking midfielder Jack Grealish expected to stay at Villa Park for the immediate future, the club are now looking to add talent around their star-man.

A Cape Verde international, Tavares has received 25 international caps, scoring four goals.
