Aston Villa’s Birkir Bjarnason has emerged as a transfer target for Italian side Empoli.
According to reports from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited on This Is Futbol, the Serie B side want to bring the player back to Italy.
The report claims that the club are hoping to lodge a bid before the European window closes.

Bjarnason has plenty of Italian experience under his belt, having previously enjoyed spells with Pescara and Sampdoria.
The Icelandic star has struggled at times since joining Villa, struggling to find a settled place in Steve Bruce’s side. He has been used in wide positions as well as in defensive midfield.
The 30-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the new campaign, featuring in both of the Villians’ games so far.
He was the hero against Wigan as he scored a last-minute winner to give Villa all three points.
