Green will now spending the rest of the season in League One with Portsmouth as they look for promotion to the Championship – where Villa are currently competing.

Norwich and Bolton – both Championship clubs – were interested in the winger, although Villa appeared unwilling to let him join a rival club ahead of Friday’s deadline.

He has now completed his move to Portsmouth and will be looking to have a strong season to prove he has a future at Aston Villa.
