Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder and Aston Villa target has confirmed Championship clubs were interested in signing him over the summer.
Birmingham Live reports that Clare, who has recently joined Hearts, was in demand after it became clear that he would be leaving the Championship side.
He also claims that Premier League teams were keeping tabs on him.
While he does not name Villa as one of the teams in question, Steve Bruce’s men were believed to be keen on signing him throughout the summer transfer window.
Clare opted to take his career north of the border and join Hearts, with Wednesday now eligible for as much as £130,000 in compensation.
The youngster spent last season on loan at Gillingham in League One and he’ll be hoping to make an impact in Scotland this season.
His Hearts side currently sit at the top of the Scottish Premiership after an impressive start to the season.
